Ms. Murmu arrived by flight at the Coimbatore International Airport, from where she proceeded by road to Udhagamandalam. Ms. Murmu was expected to travel to Udhagamandalam by helicopter at the Theetukkal helipad, but due to inclement weather and poor visibility in the hills, it was decided that she travel to the Nilgiris by road.
She was welcomed by Governor R. N. Ravi, Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Siva V. Meyyanathan, Nilgiris Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, and Nilgiris SP N.S. Nisha.
Mr. Ravi arrived in Udhagamandalam on Tuesday (November 26, 2024) evening and left after receiving Ms. Murmu at the Raj Bhavan.
Ms. Murmu is scheduled to visit the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, Coonoor, on Thursday (November 28, 2024), where she will address faculty and student officers. She is expected to rest at the Raj Bhavan in Udhagamandalam on Thursday evening and Friday (November 29, 2024), and will depart from the Nilgiris on Saturday (November 30) morning.
She is then scheduled to attend the 9th convocation of Central University of Tamil Nadu in Tiruvarur on Saturday.
Police presence was stepped up across the Nilgiris in preparation for the President’s visit, with traffic along the Kotagiri to Mettupalayam Road being affected due to the President’s convoy passing through. Tourists and local residents complained that the road had been shut down since 8 a.m on Wednesday, with Doddabetta Peak also remaining closed until the President’s convoy safely reached Udhagamandalam.
