Child marriages on the rise in Vizianagaram, Srikakulam districts, says SCPCR Chairman

APSCPCR Chairman urges action to end child marriages in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts, highlighting 'Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat' program.
Andhra Pradesh State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) Chairman Kesali Apparao on Wednesday asked the representatives of various service organisations to take appropriate steps to stop child marriages, which have been on the rise in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts.
Along with Women and Child Welfare Project Director B. Shanti Kumari and Bejjipuram Youth Club president M. Prasada Rao, he administered an oath to stop child marriages in a programme organised at Cantonment Municipal High School in Vizianagaram.
He said that the Union government has put special focus to eradicate the menace of child marriages in the country through the ‘Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat’ programme. Mr. Prasada Rao said that a candle rally was taken up in 50 villages to create awareness among the people about the social and health problems faced by children marrying early.
