Pomp and gaiety mark Republic Day celebrations in southern districts

District Republic Day celebrations in Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, and Tenkasi with flag hoisting, honors, and cultural programs.
The 76th Republic Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour at the district sports stadium in Thoothukudi on Sunday. District Collector K. Elambahavath unfurled the national flag and received the guard of honor along with the District Superintendent of Police Albert John.
At the event, the Collector honoured the heirs of freedom fighters and felicitated 434 government staff, including police, and other departments with certificates of excellence
As part of the celebrations, cultural programmes performed by 917 school students from various parts of the district were showcased.
District Revenue Officer A. Ravichandran, Thoothukudi Corporation Commissioner L. Madhubalan and other officials were present at the event.
Kanniyakumari
Collector R. Alagumeena hoisted the flag and oversaw the Republic day parade in Kanniyakumari district.
Following the parade of police officials, the Collector honoured 72 police personnel with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s medals in recognition of their meritorious service. Besides, 92 police officials were felicitated with certificates of appreciation at the event.
