Piyush Goyal chairs meeting to review civic projects in north Mumbai

Union Minister Piyush Goyal reviews ₹60,000 crore infra projects in Mumbai North, focusing on healthcare, traffic, and social welfare.
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal chaired a meeting with the local government authorities to review development and infrastructural projects in Mumbai North, which also happens to be his parliamentary constituency.
Projects including road realignment, hospital repairs, and upgrades to civic amenities worth ₹60,000 crore were discussed in the meeting, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the office of Mr. Goyal said in a joint statement. This is the third such review meeting in the past five months.
“A modern, multi-specialty hospital will be established in north Mumbai by August 15. Affordable and accessible healthcare services are the top priority. The redevelopment of the Bhagwati and Shatabdi hospitals, along with a 1,000-bed super-specialty hospital, will greatly benefit the healthcare sector in north Mumbai,” the statement read.
In order to decongest traffic in Mumbai, the coastal road will be extended from Versova to Mira-Bhayandar said Mr. Goyal at the press briefing in addition to Versova-Marve bridge.
Besides infrastructure projects, social welfare measures including projects to improve the lives of the fishing community in the region were also discussed at the meeting.
The meeting assumes significance as it comes months in advance of local body elections in Mumbai.
“We have made a commitment to transform Uttar Mumbai into an Uttam Mumbai. There have been positive discussions with officials on how issues like healthcare, education, infrastructure, pollution, and basic facilities in north Mumbai will be resolved. With the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections, the Mahayuti will win 40 seats in the elections,” Mr. Goyal said at the briefing.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has sealed 6,914 non-residential properties and attached 81,644 properties this financial year till January 4 for non-payment of property tax dues. The total number of defaulters as on Monday was 2,06,753 and the total dues from these properties stands at ₹329.15 crore.
