PD Act invoked against ‘ganja don’ Angoori Bai
The Hyderabad excise police on Tuesday invoked the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against notorious drug peddler Angoori Bai alias Aruna Bai, who was arrested multiple times for running large-scale ganja trade in the city.
Dhoolpet Excise Circle Inspector Madhu Babu formally served the PD Act orders to Angoori Bail, who is currently serving a sentence in the Central Prison, Chanchalguda.
Also known as the Dhoolpet’s ‘Ganja Don’, Angoori Bai faces 30 cases related to the illegal sale of ganja, including 20 cases in excise police stations, and 10 in civil police stations.
Settled in Doolpet, Angoori Bai established herself as a key figure in the drug trade. Despite being put behind the bars several times, she resumed operations after securing bail, involving her family members in the business.
On the recommendation of the Excise Department, Hyderabad Collector Anudeep Durisetty issued orders to invoke the PD Act against her on Tuesday.
Authorities stated that the PD Act was imposed to prevent Angoori Bai from continuing drug trade and to curb the growing threat of ganja distribution in the city. The police emphasised that strict measures would continue against repeat offenders involved in drug trafficking.
