Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan promotes dairy sector growth in Andhra Pradesh through Gujarat cooperative model.
PITHAPURAM
Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan has asked women and dairy farmers to draw inspiration from Gujarat dairy cooperatives to strengthen the cooperative system in the dairy sector in Andhra Pradesh.
Mr. Pawan Kalyan on Friday formally inaugurated 12,500 Gokulams built across the State under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) to guarantee better health care for cattle, improve milk production and ensure empowerment of dairy farmers.
In Pithapuram, he inaugurated a Gokulam and distributed four cows to a dairy farmer, Yatam Nageswara Rao.
Addressing a meeting later, Mr. Pawan Kalyan said, “By the end of January, the construction of all 21,000 Gokulams will be completed under NREGA enabling proper care of nearly 50,000 milch cattle.”
“Strengthening the dairy cooperative system is the immediate goal of the State government. The Andhra Pradesh government’s pact with the Amul group to increase milk production did not yield the targeted result,” he said.
Mr. Pawan Kalyan promised the State government’s support to the sector to make Andhra Pradesh a major milk producer in the country.
