Widespread rainfall in Tamil Nadu cools down soaring heat on March 12, 2025, with scattered showers expected till March 13, 2025, followed by dry weather.
Widespread rainfall, which was heavy in some districts, helped cool down the soaring heat in most parts of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday (March 12, 2025). The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has predicted that scattered rainfall will continue till the early hours of Thursday (March 13, 2025). Dry weather may return to most parts of Tamil Nadu from Thursday forenoon.
According to RMC, a cyclonic circulation that lies over Comorin area will influence wet weather at a few places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry till the early hours of Thursday. Heavy rainfall would be restricted to a few districts along the Western Ghats, including Nilgiris and Coimbatore.
P. Senthamarai Kannan, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, said dry weather would return to most parts of the State from Thursday. There is a possibility for isolated rainfall covering one or two weather stations till March 16. There may be a marginal increase in rainfall cover on March 17 and March 18.
The day temperature may begin to increase by two-three degrees Celsius between March 13 and March 15 as a dip in rainfall is expected.
On Wednesday, rainfall occurred over most places of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Nearly 30 weather stations across the State received heavy to very heavy rainfall. Thiyagadurgam in Kallakurichi district received 16 cm, which was the heaviest rainfall in the State during the past 24 hours (as of 8.30 a.m.) on Wednesday.
The summer showers lowered day temperature significantly, giving relief to residents from the rising mercury levels in most parts of Tamil Nadu. The maximum temperature had dipped below average by three to six degree Celsius at a few places and were in the range of 27-33 degree Celsius over the coastal belt. Residents of most parts of Tamil Nadu may enjoy pleasant weather on Wednesday.
