Paddy procurement for the 2024-25 samba season began in Mayiladuthurai district on Friday, with District Collector A.P. Mahabharathi inaugurating the operations at the direct procurement centre (DPC) at Kidarankondan village in Tharangambadi taluk.
In the district, 175 DPCs have been approved for this Samba season with 68 centres already operational. The remaining centres will be opened based on paddy arrivals, Mr. Mahabharathi said.
Paddy has been cultivated on 68,880 hectares of land in Mayiladuthurai district this samba season, with an anticipated yield of 3,44,400 tonnes. Of this, the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) is expected to procure approximately 2,50,000 tonnes.
Procurement rates have been set at ₹2,450 a quintal for fine variety paddy, which includes ₹2,320 as Minimum Support Price (MSP) and ₹130 as incentive. For common variety paddy, the rate is ₹2,405 per quintal, including an MSP of ₹2,300 and ₹105 as incentive. Farmers selling in 40 kg sacks will receive ₹980 for fine variety and ₹962 for common variety.
Farmers must present cultivation proof such as patta or chitta documents, which can be obtained from their village administrative officers. Complaints can be directed to the District Collector or revenue officials.
Mr. Mahabharathi urged farmers to make use of the facilities provided to ensure smooth and timely procurement.
