Velscope aids in early oral cancer detection at Ongole GGH, emphasizing prevention, awareness, and advanced diagnostic tools.
Velscope is a game-changer in early detection of oral cancer and this critical tool is available in Ongole Government General Hospital (GGH) and its affiliated Medical College, says GGH Superintendent T. Jamuna.
Along with Medical College Principal Dr. Edukondala Rao, she flagged off cancer awareness rally at the college premises on the occasion of World Cancer Day on Tuesday morning. Healthcare professionals, students, and community members participated in the rally up to Trunk Road.
‘United by Unique’ is the theme of World Cancer Day this year. The rally highlighted the GGH and Medical College’s intensified efforts in cancer prevention, awareness, and treatment, and the utilisation of advanced diagnostic tools like Velscope.
On the occasion, Dr. Jamuna said many services were available in GGH for cancer prevention and treatment. Velscope uses blue-spectrum light to identify mucosal abnormalities, enabling timely intervention to significantly enhance treatment success rates.
“The GGH has championed preventive oncology through public education campaigns on lifestyle modifications, HPV vaccinations, and regular screenings. It provides cutting-edge treatments, emphasising minimally invasive techniques to improve patient outcomes,” she informed.
“These efforts reflect GGH’s integrated strategy to reduce cancer incidence and mortality. By combining technology, education, and community outreach, the hospital aims to foster a proactive health culture, setting a benchmark for oncology care in the region.”
