School personnel and those in the higher education network will not be required to be vaccinated, Quebec City announced on Wednesday.
The Health Ministry decided on the matter following a recommendation from the Public Health Department.
The improved epidemiology in Quebec, the lower incidence of COVID-19 in children and control of outbreaks in schools are the reasons the ministry gave for the decision.
Quebec noted that vaccination remains recommended and that vaccination coverage among school personnel is high. In public and private preschool, elementary and secondary schools, 91 per cent of staff had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 89 per cent had received two doses.
In general adult and vocational education institutions, 91 per cent of staff had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 88 per cent had received two doses.
