NDRF team carries out mock rescue drill at Perambalur

Personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Tuesday carried out a mock drill on rescuing people during disaster and ways to remain safe. x
The NDRF team, which was carried out the drill at the District Collectorate, was witnessed by Collector Grace Pachuau.
The team members displayed a host of equipment used for rescue missions and explained in detail to those assembled at the event on ways of using them during disaster and other emergency situations.
They also demonstrated ways of rescuing people and evacuating them to safe areas during floods and accidents during the course of the programme. Officials from various government departments witnessed the drill, an official release said.
Built in 1927 during the British era, this marketplace has been a hub of activity for decades, offering everything from fresh produce and flowers to meat, dry fruits and exotic spices. However, years of neglect, accidents and infrastructure wear and tear have taken a toll on this heritage structure. During the 2012 fire incident at the market, more than 170 out of 440 shops, and the general infrastructure of the market was destroyed. The shops were given a basic makeover then. Since then, only the exterior of the market has been renovated, leaving the interiors and the roof untouched for more than a decade.
