Cab aggregator Namma Yatri has joined hands with autorickshaw drivers’ unions in Chennai to implement a cooperative model that ensures that drivers get 100% of their earnings through the app.
Namma Yatri is working with eight autorickshaw drivers’ unions, including Urimai Karangal, Agni Siragugal, and Sigaram, and more than 78,000 auto drivers in Chennai have been registered on the travel platform.
At a press conference held in the city on Friday (January 31, 2025), Namma Yatri officials and the office-bearers of the auto drivers’ unions signed an agreement to provide dependable transport services with fair pricing.
The members of the auto drivers’ unions also took a pledge — “Aram Seiya Virumbhu - Namma Mission is Customer Satisfaction” — of upholding professionalism and offering reliable services.
S. Magizhan Selvan, co-founder Namma Yatri, said the app allows auto drivers to get 100% of their earnings, while passengers benefit from fair and transparent fares. This shift directly addresses concerns of high commissions on other ride-booking platforms which have impacted driver incomes and increased the costs for customers, he added.
M.S. Shanmugavel of Namma Yatri said several safety measures were implemented through partnerships with government departments and community organisations to ensure a safe and seamless travel experience.
