Autorickshaw driver arrested for allegedly raping woman in Mumbai, investigation ongoing, accused apprehended based on victim's information and technical evidence.
An autorickshaw driver was arrested by the Mumbai Police for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman. The accused, identified as Rajratan Sadashiv Vaival (32), a resident of Khairpada in Waliv, reportedly assaulted the victim on a beach near Vasai before bringing her to Mumbai in his autorickshaw on January 21, 2025. According to the police, Vaival left the woman unconscious near Ram Mandir and fled the scene.
A senior officer investigating the case told The Hindu that the victim was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. A case was registered under Section 64(2)(M) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Vanrai police station and an investigation was launched.
“Based on information provided by the victim, technical evidence and inputs from confidential informants operating in the Virar to Churchgate railway area, a police team apprehended the accused from a slum in Khairpada, Waliv,” the officer said. Further investigations are under way.
