Minister Santosh Lad criticizes biased media favoring NDA government, calls for neutral reporting in democracy.
The media is acting in a biased manner in favour of the ruling NDA government at the Centre and against the opposition parties, including the Congress, Minister Santosh Lad claimed in Belagavi on Monday.
“Every positive development anywhere in the country is attributed to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while every negative development is shown as the failure of the Congress. This is absolutely unfair,” Mr. Lad said.
The Congress leader was here to unveil a statue of Shivaji Maharaj in Chikkodi.
“Indian media is blatantly biased. There has been absolutely no criticism of the Union government in the last 11 years, but there is severe criticism of the Congress rule of the earlier six decades,” he said.
“Even if water flows in the taps in a gram panchayat, the credit is given to the Prime Minister, but if there is water supply disruption, then the Congress is blamed. We should all realise that we are all human beings, whether it is me or the Prime Minister. We all make mistakes and need feedback from the people to correct ourselves. No human being can claim to be right all the time. We should all welcome criticism,” Mr. Lad said.
He claimed that he has information that there is deep discontent among several members of the Union Cabinet about the Prime Minister’s style of functioning.
“In fact, when the BJP did not get a majority in Parliament, there were demands that leaders like Nitin Gadkari, Chandrababu Naidu or Nitish Kumar be made the Prime Minister. Why is no media reporting such things. A media that is neutral and committed to showing the truth to the people is essential in a democracy,” he said.
