Man killed in wild elephant attack at Noolpuzha in Kerala’s Wayanad

Man trampled to death by wild elephant in Kerala, sparking protests and demands for increased safety measures.
A 45-year-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Noolpuzha in Wayanad district of Kerala on Monday (February 10, 2025) night. The deceased has been identified as Kappad Unnathil Manu. The incident happened when he was returning home after purchasing groceries.
His body was discovered in a nearby paddy field on Tuesday morning. His wife is reportedly missing.
Meanwhile, residents are protesting against the incident and are preventing Forest department officials from shifting the body. The police have been deployed to pacify the agitated crowd, who are demanding the District Collector’s presence at the scene.
K.M. Sindhu, a member of the local grama panchayat, told reporters that residents had repeatedly demanded fencing in the area to protect themselves from wild animal attacks.
Noolpuzha is a grama panchayat bordering Wayanad and Karnataka. The fatal incident reportedly occurred in the adjacent forest frequented by wild elephants.
