The death toll in Thursday’s road accident near Maddarki village in Shahapur taluk, on the Bidar-Srirangapatna State Highway, when a pickup van collided head-on with a government bus, has risen to five, with a 30-year-old woman succumbing to injuries at a hospital in Kalaburagi late on Friday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Hanumanthi of Warkanahalli village.
In a horrific accident, four people were killed on Thursday and several others suffered injuries when a pickup van from Warkanahalli village was headed to Ghattaraga village in Afzalpur taluk of Kalaburagi district for a family programme at Bhagyavanthi temple.
The police had to use an earthmover to remove the bodies stuck inside the van.
Meanwhile, MLA Channareddy Patil Tunnur visited the taluk hospital in Shahapur and enquired about the health of the injured and extended financial help from his own funds. He also assured the victims that he would discuss the incident with the Chief Minister and request him to release compensation on humanitarian grounds.

A major operation is under way in Kodagu district to capture two elusive tigers that have been sighted in Theralu and surrounding villages under the jurisdiction of Birunani Gram Panchayat. The forest department, supported by elephants from the Dubare elephant camp—Gopi and Srirama—has been involved in the effort for the past five days.
