:
A 38-year-old driver escaped with minor injuries after a lorry carrying LPG cylinders fell into a lake near Cheyyar town in Tiruvannamalai on Thursday. The police said the driver S. Mahesh, a native of Guduvanchery, was taking a consignment of 357 LPG cylinders from Chengalpattu district to a godown in Tiruvannamalai. When he reached Tiruvannamalai-Vandavasi Main Road, he tried to make way for an oncoming government bus. In the process, he lost control of the vehicle, which fell into the lake. On the alert of passers-by, police rushed to the spot. The driver was rescued and LPG cylinders were retrieved from the waterbody. The police said the driver could have been drowsy which might have led to the accident.
