Male tiger at Thyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari dies at 17, leaving only female tigers in the zoo.
The lone male tiger at Thyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari near Shivamogga was found dead on Tuesday. The 17-year-old, born in the zoo, died due to old age, according to a press release issued by the Safari.
With Vijay’s death, there are no male tigers left in the safari. The tiger was born in the zoo, and it spent the entire life as a star attraction at the safari. The animal had slowed down physical activity and exhibited loss of appetite. The staff in the safari had noticed the hind muscle disintegration for over a month.
The officers disposed of the carcass as per the protocol. There are four female tigers: Dashami, 17, Sita, 16, Poornima, 12 and Nivedita, 12 in the safari, said the release.
The zoo, located on Shivamogga-Sagar Road, is spread over 200 hectares and around 1,000 people visit the place every day.
