Leopard caught in trap at Koodaranhi
A leopard that created a huge scare in the upland areas of Koodaranhi panchayat in Kozhikode district was trapped in a cage set up by the Forest department on Saturday. It was after a two-week long efforts that the elusive animal was ensnared in the trap.
The leopard had attacked several domesticated animals in the upland village. A woman too had a close shave from its attack near Perumpoola. Following mass public protests by local residents and farmers organisations, the Forest department squads had intensified camera surveillance in the village to track the elusive animal.
Forest department sources said the leopard was found healthy and would be released into the forest after a final health review by the veterinary doctors. They said the operation was completed with the support of a rapid response team.
