Kerala Finance department approves ₹35-crore project to reconstruct bridge destroyed in landslides, ensuring stronger, safer structure.
The Kerala Finance department has cleared a project for reconstructing the bridge at Chooralmala in Wayanad district that was destroyed in the July 30, 2024, landslides.
The department has cleared a ₹35-crore project for building a stronger bridge linking Chooralmala town to Mundakkai road, Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal said on Wednesday.
The old bridge connected Meppadi to Mundakkai and Attamalai, Mr. Balagopal’s office said in a statement. The new bridge will be able to withstand similar mishaps.
It will have a total length of 267.95 metres, with 107 metres over the river and 80 metres on either bank. The bridge will have no pillars in the river, Mr. Balagopal’s office said.
The maximum water level reported during the landslides will be taken into account for determining the height of the new bridge.
