Basavaraja Bommai urges Karnataka to resolve Mekedatu project deadlock with Tamil Nadu through dialogue and political will.
Basavaraja Bommai, MP and former Chief Minister, on Sunday said that Karnataka should hold talks with Tamil Nadu and resolve the deadlock over the Mekedatu project.
“The Congress leaders who are ruling the State today held a padayatra for Mekedatu a few years ago. It is time for them to show political will for the project implementation now. The Congress government should talk to the DMK government in Tamil Nadu and resolve the issue,” he told reporters in Haveri on Sunday.
“Now is the time to show their commitment. Their ally DMK is in power in Tamil Nadu. Just five minutes of dialogue with them could resolve the issue,” Mr. Bommai said.
He said that the Union government had already approved the DPR (Detailed Project Report) for the Kalasa-Banduri nala projects. “Environmental clearance will be granted very soon. The Yettinahole project does not require any approval from the Centre,” he added.
Mr. Bommai said the BJP would stage a day-and-night protest on April 10 against the price hike and what he called the anti-people policies of the State government.
He said waqf amendment would ensure justice for all, including poor Muslims and farmers.
