Mr. Patil, representing Aland constituency in Kalaburagi district, was appointed as adviser on December 29, 2023. On Saturday, he formally submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister’s Office in Bengaluru.
Some of the policy decisions of the Siddaramaiah-led government and denial of funds to the constituency are said to be among the reasons for his resignation. He was also displeased with the position given to him in the government.
Moreover, it is learnt that he was unhappy over having to discharge his duties in Kalaburagi district under RDPR and IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge, who is junior to him in terms of experience and age. Mr. Patil entered the Legislative Assembly along with Mr. Siddaramaiah in 1983.
A few days ago, Mr. Patil sat on a dharna in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the Vidhana Soudha premises in Bengaluru demanding implementation of minimum support price to farmers through a law. He staged the protest in solidarity with Jagjit Singh Dallewal, farmers’ leader who has been fasting for over a one month in support of farm issues near the Punjab-New Delhi border.
Earlier, Mr. Patil had expressed disappointment in the Congress Legislature Party meetings over denial of adequate funds for his constituency development works.
