Meet 'Jenny', the new Labrador Retriever puppy joining Perambalur Police's Detective Dog Squad for explosive detection training.
Two-and-half-month-old ‘Jenny’ is the new entrant to the Detective Dog Squad of the Perambalur Police. This female puppy belonging to the Labrador Retriever breed will be trained in detecting explosive substances. Purchased from Ooty, the puppy was christened ‘Jenny’ by Perambalur Superintendent of Police Adarsh Pachera here on Friday.
The puppy will be taken care of at the Detective Dog Squad premises at Perambalur by its handlers. It will be trained at the dog squad premises in basic obedience. After completion of six months, it will be sent out for training in detecting different types of explosive substances for a period of six months before being inducted into the Detective Dog Squad for active service, said police sources.
‘Jenny’ will become the second detective dog in the Dog Squad exclusively for sniffing explosive substances. The squad has at present ‘Sakthi’ trained in detecting explosive substances and ‘Bhairava’ which is being used in detection of crimes. Handlers attached to the Dog Squad also take care of ‘Ninja’which retired from active service after being used in crime detection, said police sources.
