James Carville Urges Democrats To Focus On ‘No. 1 Promise’ Donald Trump Is Failing To Deliver

“I think if we execute on these kind of fundamental things, the voters will reward us,” the longtime Democratic strategist argued.
James Carville believes President Donald Trump’s campaign promise about food costs and his failure to lower egg prices can help Democrats regain voters’ trust ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
The longtime Democratic strategist joined News Nation’s Chris Cuomo on Monday. While he acknowledged that the immigration issue helped Trump and wounded Democrats at the ballot in November, Carville argued the president is failing to keep his “No. 1 promise.”
“Chris, remember the No. 1 promise that Trump made, which he was going to do something about high grocery prices, specifically eggs,” Carville said Monday. “Before he took office, he said, ‘Well, I can’t do anything about it.’ Well, thank you for telling us.”
Carville said he’s “encouraged” that Democrats are already addressing this: Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and 20 others slammed Trump in a letter Sunday for focusing on “mass deportations and pardoning Jan. 6 attackers” instead of food prices, NBC News reported.
Carville acknowledged that the ongoing bird flu contributes to the rising price of eggs. To drive home his point, he reiterated, “That’s not what he said in the election” last year before warning Democrats not to get distracted.
