Indian nurses to be trained to work in European nations

Veranda Learning Solutions trains Indian nurses for EU placement, addressing global healthcare worker deficit. Earn EU bachelor diploma certificate.

Veranda Learning Solutions will train around 2,000 nurses who will be placed in European Union countries in the next three years. 

The Chennai-based company recently signed an agreement to this effect with a Norwegian company, Nursing Europe AS. The nurses selected for the training and placement must have a basic BSc Nursing qualification with one year’s experience. They will be given two months of language training in India and will later travel to Norway, where they will undergo a semester of theory and another semester of practical coursework before being granted an undergraduate diploma. The nurses will then be placed in healthcare facilities in the country.

Veranda’s chief executive officer Suresh S. Kalpathi said the initiative was part of “skilling in India for the world.” The demand for nurses is around 1 to 1.5 crore. With India contributing as much as 15% of the population, there is a need for trained nurses in European countries where longevity has gone up and elderly people need assistance.  

Aditya Malik, group chief operating officer of Veranda, said EU countries faced a shortage of 2 million nurses and the global healthcare worker deficit was projected to reach 13 million by 2030.  

To address the deficit, Norway aims to invest in training nurses from India. Rajeev Lehar, co-founder and partner at Nursing EU, said Norway, with a population of 5.5 million needed 1.5 to 2 million nurses.

The nurses will be trained for 12 months and will receive an EU bachelor diploma certificate. They can earn up to 50,000 euros.
