Hyderabad Police launches CPR training programme for officers
A four-day CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training programme was inaugurated on Thursday by C.V. Anand, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, at the Command and Control Building in Banjara Hills.
The initiative, conducted in collaboration with a hospital in Mehdipatnam, aims to equip police personnel with life-saving skills crucial in emergency situations.
Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Anand expressed gratitude to Mythri Hospital for their support in providing CPR training. He highlighted that in the first phase, 1,409 police personnel have already been trained, and in the second phase, 1,248 officers and personnel of the Hyderabad City Police will undergo training. The participants will be divided into 15 batches, with each session lasting 90 minutes.
Emphasising the importance of CPR, the Commissioner stated that it plays a vital role in restoring oxygen supply to the brain and other organs in cases of cardiac arrest, preventing irreversible damage and saving lives. He stressed that any delay in administering CPR could be life-threatening and urged individuals to act swiftly without hesitation in emergencies.
Citing global statistics, he pointed out that 98% of India’s population remains untrained in CPR, whereas countries like the USA, Japan, Singapore, and several European nations have made CPR training a mandatory part of their education systems. He urged hospital authorities to extend CPR training to all 16,000 police officers and personnel in Hyderabad, ensuring they are prepared to respond effectively in medical emergencies.
The programme was attended by senior police officials, including Rakshita Krishna Murthy, DCP CAR Headquarters; Anoop Jaikumar, CTC Principal, Petla Buruju; and medical experts from Mythri Hospital, including Dr Mohammad Mohib Hussain, Dr Mohammad Sadiq Azam, Dr Faisal Ahmed, and Dr Zoha Sufian. Assistant manager Naziruddin Ahmed and other police officers were also present at the event.
