Karnataka Today newsletter: Brinda Karat slams Siddaramaiah, DKS over ‘nakli kushti’ for power, and more
CPI (Marxist) leader Brinda Karat alleged that Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and DCM D.K. Shivakumar were fighting amongst each other for power. Speaking at Adivasi Aakrosh rally in Mangaluru on January 23, Ms. Karat said Congress had come to power in Karnataka with the votes of Koragas and other like-minded people. But so far, it had done nothing to end the oppression of Koragas and tribal communities.
“Mr. Siddaramaiah and Mr. Shivakumar are fighting among themselves for power. ...Stop this nakli kushti,” she said. In Karnataka, Koragas and Jenu Kurubas are the two recognised particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs), and they number 62,000. Koragas, whose population is 16,000, are the most oppressed among the PVTGs. With falling birth rate and infant mortality rate, the population of Koragas is coming down.
