Governor Arlekar's playful and apologetic policy address to Kerala Assembly includes plans for fisheries sector.
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar’s two-hour policy address to the Kerala Legislative Assembly on Friday (January 17, 2025) featured a playful ‘thank you’ and an apology.
The State government’s plans for the fisheries sector prompted a smiling comment from Mr. Arlekar. “This may be a gift for me because I’m a fish eater. so I thank the government,” Mr. Arlekar, who is from Goa, where, like Kerala, fish is a staple in the local cuisine, said.
The 70-year-old former Bihar Governor who took over as Kerala Governor on January 2, also struggled through Malayalam terms and names contained in the policy speech, especially ‘Vizhinjam’ and ‘Pathanamthitta.’
This prompted him to wind up his policy address with an apology: “I beg your pardon if I’ve mispronounced some words,” he said. Both gestures were well-received by the House.
