Four youths drown while crossing river in A.P.’s East Godavari

Tragic drowning incident in River Godavari leaves four youths dead and one missing near Tadipudi village.

Four youths drowned and one has gone missing while six of their friends managed to swim back to the shore in the River Godavari near an island near the Tadipudi village in the Tallapudi Mandal in the East Godavari district. 

“The incident occurred when a group of 11 persons attempted to cross the river by walk to reach an island., since the inflow in the River Godavari was very less and slow”, East Godavari Superintendent of Police D. Narasimha Kishore told The Hindu. The youths planned to cross the river and enjoy a bath on the island marking Shivaratri celebrations. 

The deceased have been identified as Tirumalsetti Pawan, Padala, Durga Prasad, Anisetti Pawan, Padala Sai Krishna. Garre Akash is still missing, according to the police. They all belong to the Tadipudi village and are in the 19-20 age group.

“We have retrieved the dead bodies of the four youths. The State Disaster Response Force personnel and local swimmers are searching for Mr. Akash in the river”, said SP Mr. Narasimha Kishore. The police have registered a case and the investigation is on.
