Officials from the Food Safety Department, Villupuram, on Tuesday conducted surprise inspection at various food units and outlets in and around Auroville. The inspection was conducted to ensure that quality and safety of food items are not compromised in view of the upcoming Auroville marathon on February 16.
The team, led by District Food Safety Officer S. Sugunthan, inspected more than 50 establishments, including prominent locations such as the Solar Kitchen, Visitors’ Center, Aurelec Cafetaria, and Bread and Chocolate.
During the inspection, Mr. Sugunthan conducted awareness training for kitchen employees, emphasising the importance of wearing head masks to enhance hygiene standards. He also directed the food outlets to label their products with date of production and time, ensuring better quality control for daily consumables.
