Demanding a fixed honorarium of ₹15,000, hundreds of ASHAs had started an indefinite State-level day-and-night strike on Tuesday at Freedom Park in the city.
On Friday, following a meeting with Mr. Siddaramaiah, a fixed monthly honorarium of ₹10,000 was announced for ASHAs. Besides, the government also assured them that their other demands including guaranteed incentives for additional work, a three-month paid leave in situations of serious illness would be examined for quicker action.
“Additionally, the Chief Minister has committed to invite the ASHA Union for a discussion in the background of the upcoming budget in March. Other demands will be resolved at the department level, the Chief Minister assured. Following this, the sangha has withdrawn its ongoing strike,” said a statement from the sangha.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), probing the death of contractor, Sachin Panchal, who allegedly ended his life in Bidar on December 26 last year, arrested five persons, including the prime accused Rajkumar Kapnoor, a former member of the Kalaburagi Mahanagara Palike, and reportedly a follower of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister, Priyank Kharge, on Friday.
