Kozhikode Minister for Higher Education prioritizes job-oriented degree courses to address skill deficit in Kerala.
Minister for Higher Education R. Bindu has said that the government is prioritising degree courses that address the skill deficit of educated job seekers in the State.
She was at Government College, Mokeri, Kozhikode, on Thursday to launch an academic and digital resource centre. Ms. Bindu said Kerala had spent ₹6,000 crore in the past four years in the higher education sector. This was mentioned in the Economic Review published by the Union government. She claimed that ₹1,500 crore had been spent on infrastructure development alone. Smart classrooms, academic and digital resource centres, laboratories, and libraries were built in colleges and universities.
Ms. Bindu said students should be provided newer courses in this era of artificial intelligence. For this, the academic curriculum was revised thoroughly to make it a job-oriented one, and the four-year undergraduate programmes were being successfully launched.
Later, she inaugurated the golden jubilee celebrations of C.K.G. Memorial Government College, Perambra. Ms. Bindu said students should be equipped to enter national and international job markets with full confidence. Unemployment among the educated population was one of the major challenges faced by the State, and skill development was being given special focus.
