Focus on popularising women’s helpline, Kalaburagi officials told

Deputy Commissioner urges creating awareness for helpline 181 to aid women in distress, emphasizes preventive measures for domestic violence cases.
Taking note that helpline 181 is yet to become popular, Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum has asked officials of various departments concerned to take steps to spread awareness among the people, especially women in distress, to help them reach the public authorities when in need.
“Women helpline 181 is not as popular as the helplines 108 (for medical care) and 112 (for police) are. We need to take adequate steps to spread awareness among the people so that they can contact the authorities when they are in need, especially in domestic violence cases,” she said.
She was speaking at a district-level coordination and review meeting at her office here on Thursday.
Observing that cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 are being registered after marriage has been gone through, she stressed the need for preventive measures by the Department of Women and Child Welfare and the Police.
The officer also reviewed the progress of many government schemes like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Yojana being implemented for the benefit of women and girls and issued several directions for their effective implementation.
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Bhanwar Singh Meena, Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Rajkumar Rathod, Assistant Director Shivasharanappa, Zilla Panchayat Project Director Jagadevappa, Deputy Director of Public Instruction Suresh Madana and other senior officers were present.
