Alleged sexual harassment of a 5-year-old girl in Udupi prompts police search for accused seeking alms.
A person who was seen seeking alms in Udupi has been accused of sexually harassing a five year old girl in Udupi on Thursday, January 16.
According to Superintendent of Police K. Arun, the victim was playing near a grocery shop. The accused called the victim by signalling that he will get her a toffee. When the child came towards him, the accused took her into a lane about 30 meters away from the shop. When he touched her private parts, the child screamed. Then the accused ran away and people rushed towards the victim.
On the complaint, the Udupi Women Police searched the CCTV images and found that the accused was seeking alms in the locality by speaking in Tulu and Hindi. Special teams have been formed to trace the accused. Mr. Arun said victim was physically sound and she is being given psychological counselling.
In a statement from hospital in Belagavi, Udupi District in charge Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar she has instructed police to trace the accused at the earliest and provide necessary assistance to the victim.
