Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin praises Erode East voters for teaching lesson to Periyar critics, vows to uphold democracy.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin on Sunday (February 9, 2025) said people of the Erode East Assembly constituency had in the recent bypoll taught a fitting lesson to the “stooges” who launched disparaging remarks against Dravidar Kazhagam founder Periyar.
“Instead of campaigning on issues directly related with the people, the stooges denigrated Periyar. By depriving them of their deposit, the people of the constituency have taught them a fitting lesson. They have proved it is the land of Periyar,” the Chief Minister said in a statement.
Mr. Stalin said DMK would continue to work for the progress and development of Tamil Nadu and fight valiantly for the rights of the State. “It will be in the forefront in upholding democracy through the rule of law. The victory of the party candidate in Erode East has raised our hope,” he said.
The Chief Minister felt the victory was a prelude to the party’s goal to secure 200 seats in the Assembly elections in 2026. He added he would launch a campaign to review party work in Cuddalore on February 21 and 22.
