First phase of Bal Thackeray National Memorial completed

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray reviews progress on Bal Thackeray National Memorial in Mumbai Mayor's residence.
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday (January 10, 2024), reviewed work for the Bal Thackeray National Memorial, located at the Mumbai Mayor’s official residence in Dadar. Mr. Uddhav informed that the first phase had been completed and soon the second phase will begin.
He was accompanied by his son and legislator Aaditya Thackeray and former Maharashtra Minister Subhash Desai. “The memorial will be ready by January 2026. So far, the first phase of work has been over, the second will begin soon and tender for the same will be floated.”
Speaking to media after the review, Mr. Thackeray said, “Anyone who believes in Bal Thackeray’s ideology can visit the memorial, but those who abandoned his principles cannot take any credit for the memorial.”
“The structure, located near the Arabian Sea, is constructed considering the heritage status of the Mayor’s bungalow and environmental factors,” he added.
Describing its features, Mr. Uddhav mentioned that the structure will be sustainable and energy-efficient, having an administration building, a preservation centre, an interpretation centre, auditorium, buffer tank, underground tank, and more.
The second phase will include information on Bal Thackeray’s life, political career and work in audio- visual formats. The memorial will have of a laser show, digital mapping projection, and Thackeray’s life story that can be experienced using the augmentative reality(AR).
Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) is undertaking the construction of memorial at a cost of ₹400 crore.
