Controversy erupts as SNDP leader Vellappally Natesan criticizes Malappuram district in Kerala, sparking backlash and threats of action.
Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam leader Vellappally Natesan has stirred a fresh controversy by describing Malappuram district in Kerala as “a State of one particular community where even fresh breath is hard to find” for the backward Ezhava sections.
Addressing an SNDP convention at Chungathara held on Saturday in the run-up to the upcoming byelection in the Nilambur Assembly constituency, Mr. Natesan said the backward sections have not attained any progress since Independence.
He said they were to be satisfied with the “petty work” under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
Several groups responded angrily at Mr. Natesan and condemned his statement as ‘communal and divisive.’
The SDPI filed a complaint with the District Superintendent of Police seeking action against Mr. Natesan.
The Youth Congress has threatened to “handle” him if he continued his “communal vituperative.”
“We know what to do with communal persons like Mr. Natesan. If he doesn’t stop spreading venom like this, he will be taken to task,” said Youth Congress district president Haris Mudur.
