Erode Corporation reissues tender for 145 shops at new bus stand, auction on March 5, 2025, raising ₹9 crore in rent deposits.
The Erode Corporation has reissued a tender and public auction notice for the 145 shops located on the premises of the newly constructed satellite bus stand in Solar. The last date for submission of bids is March 5, 2025, while the auction will be held at 11.30 a.m. on the same day.
The works at the bus stand, under way at a cost of ₹63.50 crore, will be completed in a few months. The total built-up area is 12,247 sq. m., and the facility includes 134 shops, six stalls, one dispensary, and four passenger cloakrooms. Additionally, the first floor features two restaurants, separate dormitories for men and women, and a hall equipped with modern amenities for commercial use. The civic body plans to raise ₹9 crore by renting out the shops on the premises and collecting deposits.
Shop sizes within the terminal, main blocks, and small blocks range from 164.46 sq. ft to 373.74 sq. ft, with rents fixed at ₹57.50 per sq. ft. The deposit for the shops varies from ₹3.5 lakh to ₹7.5 lakh, depending on their location. The rent remains the same for pharmacies and cloakrooms as for commercial shops, but deposit amounts differ. Restaurants, dormitories, and the multi-purpose hall have rents fixed at ₹34.50 per sq. ft, with deposit amounts varying accordingly.
A Corporation official told The Hindu that a tender was floated in December 2024, and a public auction was scheduled for January 10, 2025. However, due to the by-election for the Erode (East) Assembly constituency, the auction was postponed. The official said the tender was re-issued for a period of three years, from 2025 to 2028, and interested parties can submit bids and participate in the auction at the Corporation office. The official also stated that the rules and regulations for participating in the process were published in the district gazette in 2024.
