Erode Corporation launches mass cleaning drive, deploying 60 workers in each of 60 wards for city cleanliness.
The Erode Corporation has launched a mass cleaning drive across all 60 wards within its jurisdiction, deploying 60 conservancy workers in each ward.
A health official said the civic body planned to carry out the drive in two wards per zone each week, allowing a total of eight wards across the four zones to be covered weekly. The drive commenced on Tuesday, with workers desilting drains, clearing bushes, and cleaning roads. The official said the drive was completed in Wards 24, 30, 36, and 52, while the remaining wards would be covered in the coming days.
Corporation Commissioner H.S. Srikanth inspected the work in these four wards and held discussions with officials. He urged residents to segregate waste and hand it over to conservancy workers while advising both the public and traders to avoid banned plastic items. He emphasised that maintaining the city’s cleanliness was a shared responsibility and called on the stakeholders to cooperate with officials.
