Andhra Pradesh Endowments Department is considering plans to renovate the historic Sri Venugopala Swamy and Uma Ramalingeswara Swamy temples at Konada of Pusapatirega mandal in Vizianagaram district.
The department is planning to utilise the Conservation Grants Fund (CGF) for carrying our repairs and improving facilities at the temple.
The temple, which is believed to have been constructed in the 9th Century, was rebuilt by philanthropist Magatapalli Kamayya and his family members in 1946.
Devotees from different places in the district come to the temple to worship Lord Shiva and Lord Venugopala Swamy.
The temple is in a dilapidated condition now with the lack of supervision by the authorities concerned. Former chairman of the temple trust board Vijjipu Ramu and former trustees Maroju Srinivasa Rao and Mahadasu Srinivasa Rao urged the government to take up the renovation works as early as possible.
Endowments Department’s Assistant Commissioner K. Sireesha said that she would look into the proposal submitted by the local residents seeking financial assistance under CGF for renovation of temple.
She said the local people’s support was needed as their financial contribution would help the department take up more developmental works.
Fishermen association members, who participated in the fishermen grievance redress meeting held at the District Collectorate in Nagercoil on Friday, sought issuance of subsidy for diesel and implementation of advanced technologies and establishment of control rooms on the shore for rescuing fishermen during emergencies at sea.
