A 77-year-old amputee got a fresh leash of life after he received a prosthetic limb after his left leg was amputated. The medical intervention was also a first for the Krishnagiri Government Medical College Hospital here, marking the inaugural of the prosthetics division of the orthopaedic bone and joint department of the hospital.
Chinnathambi, the patient, had to amputate his left leg after it had decomposed from an injury. A prosthetic limb was made for him under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme. According to the medical college hospital, a prosthetic limb will cost ₹2 lakh to ₹3 lakh in a private hospital, whilst it is being given free of cost under the scheme.
