Elaborate arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of the urban civic polls in Cuddalore district on February 19. A total of 5,78,812 electors — 2,81,110 men, 297,591 women, and 111 others — are eligible to exercise their franchise in the polls.
The arrangements include deployment of 2,000 police personnel on law and order duty on the polling day and posting of over 5,100 government employees including 171 zonal officers for election duty at 715 polling stations across the district.

Superintendent of Police S. Sakthi Ganesan said the Police Department had made elaborate security arrangements to ensure hassle-free and free and fair polling in the district. About 2,000 police personnel had been deployed for security on the polling day. The Department had also deployed 57 mobile parties for polling.
As many as 410 booths had been identified as critical and vulnerable.
In Villupuram district, 935 candidates are in the fray for 210 ward posts in three municipalities and seven Town Panchayats. Out of 346 polling stations in the district, as many as 65 had been identified as vulnerable and critical. Webcasting had been arranged in the 65 polling stations while 281 booths will be under CCTV surveillance.
