Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, he said that 30 seats were in gram panchayats and another was in the town municipal council.
The BJP-backed candidates could win only seven seats, he said.
Before these bypolls, the Congress-supported candidates had won 14 of 31 seats while the BJP-backed candidates had bagged 17 seats. The BJP lost 10 seats in this bypolls, he said.
The Congress increasing its tally indicated that people are reposing their trust in the grand old party, he said.
During the BJP’s campaign in the last Assembly elections, it claimed that the Congress would not be able to implement its guarantee schemes and that they would remain only as poll promises. But after the Congress won the Assembly polls, the party implemented the schemes as promised. Later, the people realised that the BJP was only misleading them. Hence they have voted for the Congress-backed candidates, he said.
Mr. Kumar, a former MLC, exuded confidence that the Congress would win the taluk and the zilla panchayat and the Mangaluru City Corporation elections in the coming days. Women beneficiaries of guarantee schemes are with the Congress, he claimed.
