‘Efforts to develop harmonious relationships with neighbouring states should increase’

“Because of technology, Kannada can share in the knowledge of other languages and vice-versa. At the same time, we need to increase the efforts to develop cordial relationships with the five states Karnataka shares its border with. We need to focus on researching subjects related to other languages in the State and, thus, develop humane relationships with other languages,” he said.

He was delivering convocation address at the 33rd Convocation of Kannada University, Hampi, on Friday.

“Knowledge does not only mean technological knowledge. It encompasses all human wisdom. Knowledge will have a real meaning when it is seen as a whole traditional wisdom of communities,” he said.

Stressing upon the importance of digitisation of ‘Kannada knowledge’ for its easy access, Mr. Rajasab called upon stakeholders to make this happen as soon as possible.

“Digitisation of Kannada works and its translations is the need of the hour. We need to take up this task urgently so that Kananda can expand beyond the boundaries of Karnataka. The simplification of the Kannada alphabet by discarding some of the letters that are not required for Kannada writing is also another requirement to develop the language. Kannada University has a greater role to play in these tasks,” he said.
