E-pass system begins in Kodaikanal; 806 vehicles enter with 4,307 passengers on day one

Kodaikanal hill station requires e-pass for entry, with 806 vehicles and 4,307 passengers on the first day.
A total of 806 vehicles with e-pass carrying 4,307 passengers entered the Kodaikanal hill station on Tuesday, the first day, from which it has been made mandatory for vehicles to obtain the pass as per the High Court directive.
Officials from the Dindigul district administration here said that till 5 p.m., the number of vehicles that entered the hill station stood at 806 with the e-pass which included 3 buses, 620 cars, 13 mini-buses, 119 two-wheelers, 44 vans and 7 others.
Actually, 8,755 vehicles had applied for e-pass mentioning that they would have 50,594 passengers. However, the website indicates the total number of e-pass issued every day and would also show the balance available which would enable the applicant to complete the filing process.
In the event of reaching the maximum number on a particular day, the applicant shall opt for alternative days.
Following the directive from the court, the district administration had made it mandatory for all tourist vehicles and from other district/states entering the hill station to obtain the e-pass.
During the week days (Monday-Friday), the website would issue a maximum of 4,000 e-passes and during weekends and on holidays 6,000 e-passes would be issued.
Collector S. Saravanan had appealed to the visitors to apply for the e-pass simultaneously while reserving the rooms in Kodaikanal so that there would be no issues in entry.
