The Sirumugai police in Coimbatore district on Saturday arrested a dog trainer who unleashed his Pit Bull dog on neighbours after they came to the rescue of his live-in partner whom he had ousted from house on Friday night. Two neighbours were injured in the dog attack.
K. Udhayakumar (40) of Alangombu at Sirumugai was arrested for assaulting his live-in partner, an Odisha woman, and his neighbours using the dog.
The police said the incident took place around 9.30 p.m. on Friday. Udhayakumar had a quarrel with his partner and he ousted her from house semi nude, allegedly after unleashing the Pit Bull on her. Neighbours came to the rescue of the woman after hearing her cries and gave her a dress to wear. As the neighbours questioned Udhayakumar for the cruelty, he unleashed the dog on them too. A 20-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl were injured in the dog attack.
S. Senthamaraiselvi, a neighbour, lodged a complaint with the Sirumugai police on Saturday based on which Udhayakumar was arrested.
According to the police, Udhayakumar had been living alone after getting separated from his wife. He had worked in West Bengal where he befriended the woman from Odisha. She came to Sirumugai a few months ago and had been living with Udhayakumar who trained dogs for a living.
Sirumugai inspector Velankanni Udayareka said the police collected the statement of the woman with the help of a translator and she accused Udhayakumar of having assaulted her and made the dog attack her on several occasions when she said that she wanted to leave for Odisha.
Udhayakumar was remanded in judicial custody late on Saturday.
Senior BJP leader and former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Saturday (November 23, 2024) said the landslide victory of the Mahayuti alliance in the Maharashtra Assembly election was historic, and that it reflected people’s mindset across the country. She added that the DMK would be unseated from power in the 2026 Assembly election in Tamil Nadu and that the BJP would be the reason for it.
