Dick Van Dyke, 98, tried to ‘crawl to the car’ to escape Malibu fires: ‘I couldn’t get up’

Dick Van Dyke barely escaped his Malibu mansion that was hit by the wildfires raging through Southern California.
“It was coming from the hill, you could see it,” the legendary actor, who turns 99 on Dec. 23, said in an interview on “Today” on Thursday.
“And oh my God, and we got out of here,” he continued. “I was trying to crawl to the car, I had exhausted myself, I couldn’t get up.”
Thankfully, Van Dyke’s neighbors rescued him from being hurt or killed by the fires.
“Three neighbors came and carried me out and came back and put out a little fire in the guest house and saved me,” he said.
On Tuesday, Van Dyke announced on Facebook that he and his wife, Arlene Silver, fled their $8 million hillside home to safety, but were forced to leave behind their beloved cat in the mayhem.
