Damaged drain poses a threat to residents at Old Washermanpet
The Hindu
Greater Chennai Corporation addresses complaints of damaged storm water drains in Washermanpet and Thiruneermalai, urging repairs and action against contractors.
The Greater Chennai Corporation has built a storm water drain in the middle of M.S. Naidu Street at Old Washermanpet because the road is narrow. A part of the drain caved in two months ago, and the damaged drain is posing a threat to pedestrians and motorists. The civic body installed a barricade on a complaint from residents. Another poorly built drain caved in at Ramanuja Kudam. The pit has been closed with a cement bag. A month has passed since a complaint was lodged with the civic body, but the drains are yet to be repaired.

A senior official of the Greater Chennai Corporation has said the complaint has been referred to the Assistant Commissioner of the Tondiarpet Zone for taking up immediate repairs to the drains and also for taking action against the contractor.
The service road of the Maduravoyal-Irumbuliyur Bypass at Thiruneermalai, being used by hundreds of vehicles going to the industrial hub of Thirumudivakkam, has dysfunctional street lights. Hundreds of workers, returning home from industrial units at night, are facing hardship. We request the Highways Department to repair the street lights.
