CPI leaders pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary, highlighting his inspiration and fight for democracy.
Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary D. Raja garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, near the Central Park, and paid tributes to him on the death anniversary of the Father of the Nation, here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Raja said that the Mahatma continues to inspire people of all generations, and the credit for uniting all people, professing different religions, goes to him. The glorification of Naturam Godse, who killed Gandhiji, by the RSS and BJP was an indication of their scant respect for secularism and democracy, he alleged. Mr. Raja said that the CPI would continue to fight for the rights of the common people and upholding democracy drawing inspiration from Gandhiji.
CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna said that the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi to free the nation from foreign rule could never be forgotten. A true tribute to Gandhij was to strive to realise his dreams for the nation.
CPI national leaders Aniraja, Amarjeet Kaur, Balachander Kango, Pashya Padma, CPI State assistant secretary J.V. Satyanarayana Murthy, district secretary M. Pydiraju, Mahila Samakhya State president Attili Vimala were among those who were present.
Meanwhile, the CPI national executive meeting began in the city on Thursday. The CPI national secretary in his opening remarks, gave an overview of the political situation in the country and the role of the CPI.
