A commotion broke out during a meeting of AIADMK functionaries in Gobichettipalayam on Wednesday when an individual questioned why cadres from the Anthiyur constituency were not invited to the gathering.
At the meeting, chaired by Gobichettipalayam MLA K.A. Sengottaiyan, an individual, who claimed to be a functionary from Anthiyur, raised slogans and was subsequently invited to the stage. However, he allegedly raised his voice in aggressive manner, following which members on the stage intervened, reportedly attacking him with chairs and chasing him away.
There was a brief period of tension, but the meeting resumed afterward.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sengottaiyan accused former Anthiyur MLA E.M.R. Raja of orchestrating the disruption by sending the individual to the meeting. He further blamed Mr. Raja for the electoral defeat in the Anthiyur constituency and said he possessed an audio CD as evidence to back his claim.
The meeting was attended by Mettupalayam MLA A.K. Selvaraj, Bhavanisagar MLA A. Bannari, and other functionaries.
